One Promise / Une promesse

One Promise

Staff at the Central Office of the World Scout Bureau celebrated Founder's Day with a short ceremony also attended by Lydia Mutare from The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.

A joint message on behalf of WOSM and WAGGGS was read by Lydia, who then invited Scouts to renew their Promise in the language in which they first made it. This great symbol of commitment and unity made for a joyous occasion which was concluded with an afternoon tea.

Joint Thinking Day and Founder's Day Message

Lesley Bulman-Lever, Chief Executive of WAGGGS and Eduardo Missoni, Secretary General of WOSM

This is a Thinking Day and Founder's Day message from Lesley Bulman-Lever, Chief Executive of WAGGGS and Eduardo Missoni, Secretary General of WOSM.

"Once again we are sending a joint message to all our members.

The 22nd February is a day of great significance for Scouts, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts across the world, as we give thanks on the birthdays of our Founders, Lord Robert and Lady Olave Baden-Powell who together have inspired and transformed the lives of many, many millions of young people.

Our two world organizations share a strong commitment for Peace. Bringing resolution to conflict and creating understanding between people from different nationalities, faiths and cultures is fundamental to the Promise that every girl and boy, every woman and man in our great Movement will renew on this day.

Let us hope and pray that the coming year, together we will be able to give once again a significant contribution to a more peaceful time, to a higher respect for the environment in order to reduce natural disasters and to better life conditions for those suffering form poverty and disease, especially those infected and affected by HIV and AIDS.

Let us all renew our determination to "leave the world a better place" as our Founders."

With very best wishes

Lesley Bulman-Lever
Chief Executive, WAGGGS
Eduardo Missoni
Secretary General, WOSM
