Summary of the 22nd Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Conference

PARTICIPATION
The 22nd Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Conference was held from 18th to 23rd October 2007, in Tokyo, Japan with the participation of 589 people who are comprised of delegates, observers, accompanying persons, guests, committee/sub-committee members, host organization staff and World Scout Bureau staff. Countries represented were Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Scouts of China, Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Macau, French Polynesia, Afghanistan, Belgium, Botswana, Cambodia, Canada, Finland, New Caledonia, Rwanda, Sweden, Uganda, UK and USA.
Other international organizations which attended the conference were World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), United States Fund for International Scouting (USFIS), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR) and Asia-Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO (ACCU).

ADDRESSES
The conference was officially opened by Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino and the Keynote Address was given by Mr Hideo Tamai, Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Science and Technology, who hoped that through the Movement’s activities, the healthy development of young people will continue within and outside the region.

World Scout Committee Chairman Herman Hui, talked about in his speech, the principles of Scouting and the necessary innovations needed by the movement today while WOSM Secretary General Eduardo Missoni shared his proposed vision of “one organization serving one movement.

ELECTION
five members of the Regional Scout Committee who served from 2001 to 2007 were recognized, they were past Chairman Eric Khoo, past vice chairman Zainal Abidin, past vice chairman Ross McKenzie, Committee members John Hui and Koji Oguri, and young adult member Edward Cook.

Regional Scout Committee for 2007-2009. A new Regional Scout Committee was reconstituted on 20th October after the members elected their chairman and vice chairmen, as follows:
