Training Techniques and Methods reviewed at Thailand workshop
A total of 51 Leaders, comprising of 27 overseas participants from 13 countries and 24 from Thailand, who are directly working in Training Teams have gathered together in Thailand from 22nd to 25th September 2008 to focus on Training methods and techniques and to discuss and exchange ideas on measures to further improve the quality of training.
The four-day workshop – “APR Workshop on Training Methods and Techniques,” held at the Vajiravudh National Scout Camp at Sriracha, looked at the various training techniques and methods that reinforced more the quality of Scout training across the region.
The workshop was declared open by the National Scout Organization of Thailand (NSOT) Secretary General Mr. Boonrat Wongyai in the presence of Regional Scout Committee member Mr Prakorb Mukura and International Commissioner of NSOT Mr Sutham Phanthusak. World Scout Bureau/Asia-Pacific Region Regional Director Abdullah Rasheed at the inaugural remarks encouraged the participants to get the message across for quality training and to ensure that the participants to share what they will learn and experience when they get back to their respective countries. He recalled that Training Methods and Techniques is not new to the Asia Pacific Region and a publication was first issued by the region as far back as 1975. Three editions have already been printed of this book, in 1980 and in 1995, and is widely used in this workshop as one of the references.
Participants enjoyed a good amount of learning from a well-experienced training team comprised of Mr Paul Parkinson, Scouts Australia’s National Commissioner on Adult Training and Development; Mr Saad Zian, WSB Central Office Adult Resources Director together with some NSOT key leader trainers. Ms Reiko Suzuki, Chairperson of APR Adult Resources Sub-Committee and Mr Thian Hiong-Boon from APR Office were the other resource persons supporting the running of the workshop.
