Alcoa Foundation Supports Scouting's Environmental Sustainability Awareness Programme at 21st World Scout Jamboree
Geneva, 28 July 2007 - Beginning today, more than 40,000 young people from across the globe will gather at the World Scout Jamboree in Hylands Park, Chelmsford, UK. For the next two weeks, this enormous collection of Scouts and their leaders will celebrate the Centenary of Scouting, learn about each other’s cultures and experience new adventures. Alcoa Foundation representatives will also be there to celebrate with them as they support the creation of a Scouting environmental sustainability awareness program.
The Alcoa Foundation's presence at the World Scout Jamboree follows this year's 5 June launch of a joint programme between the Alcoa Foundation and the World Organization of the Scout Movement. Scouting representatives are running initial workshop tests at the Jamboree and are working on the specifics of the educational programme to be later rolled out across Europe.

"We believe that these young people are our future and think it's important that they are aware of the choices they can make when it comes to living in a responsible and sustainable way, which mirrors our company's overall sustainability approach.
"We are very pleased to have the support of the Alcoa Foundation at this year's World Scout Jamboree and to be developing these important programmes together for our members," said Eduardo Missoni, Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.
The World Scout Jamboree will offer training and workshops on many subjects. The workshops that are connected to the Environmental Sustainability Awareness programme will focus on four areas: Climate Change, Disaster Preparedness, Renewable Energy and Green Living. During the course of the Jamboree, more than 1,500 young people are expected to participate in these specific workshops targeted at understanding sustainability. Next year, in 2008, the complete package of the Environmental Sustainability Awareness Programme will be launched at the World Scout Conference in Korea.
