Fellowship Meets in Denmark

The 47th World Baden-Powell Fellowship event took place in Denmark from 11th to 13th September. 240 Baden-Powell Fellows, 55 Olave Baden-Powell Society Members and guests participated in the challenging programme which raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Scouting and Guiding.

Lars Kolind (Denmark), a member of the Foundation Board, and his team built a magical atmosphere which allowed the Fellowship to come into its own.

The formal programme began with a Conference hosted by the Lego Company addressing Scouting and Corporate Social Reponsibility. The conclusion of the Conference was that Scouting and Guiding provide an excellent (and highly efficient) vehicle for large companies to engage in social and community issues.

The formal presentations opened up the questions, but the answers came in the informal discussions afterwards - and the ideas generated have been impressive! The Lego Company is in discussions with Scouting on how to support Scouting's work in Peace and Understanding worldwide.

One group of B-P Fellows has proposed an end-of-year gift campaign, another prominent B-P Fellow has proposed a programme of commercial sponsorship, and yet another has offered to lead a campaign to extend the upper limit of the Honours Programme. Everyone seems to have left the event energised! Thanks Lars, Lego and Denmark!

Outgoing WSF Chairman Suk Won Kim (Korea) ended his three year term in Denmark, handing over to Dr Eberhard von Koerber (Switzerland). As Suk Won Kim points out in the Annual Report 2002-2003, the financial markets may fluctuate, but the lifeblood of this Foundation is the World Baden-Powell fellowship - its members from 66 countries who truly believe in Scouting!

Dr von Koerber takes the reins with the success of the Danish event behind him, a renewed energy and motivation and a commitment to keep up the work of Chairman Kim and all his predecessors.
