International Scouts of the World Award Discovery in Singapore
The Scouts of the World Base in Singapore conducted the 3rd Scouts of the World Award Discovery Workshop from the 12 to 14 December 2008! Attended by 7 participants, comprising of 3 from Singapore, 3 from Thailand and 1 from Malaysia, this was the pilot ASEAN SWA Discovery workshop!
Aside from being an Environment Discovery workshop, it also served another important purpose – to introduce and share the experience and workshop methods used by the Singapore Base with the international participants. With this pilot workshop, the Singapore SWA Base hopes to work with other NSO in Asia to establish more bases and encourage interaction and exchanges between young people.
The workshop contents were in line with WOSM Scout of the World Award guidelines, focusing on the Environment theme. Creative ideas were also incorporated to make the workshop more interesting, including two exploration field trips. Following Recommendation H from the recent 10th World Scout Youth Forum in Korea, Earth Hour was also incorporated into dinner time. Taking further steps to reduce the workshop’s carbon footprint, paper documents were printed on both sides, waste paper reused, reusable lunch boxes instead of disposable wares, and even the certificates were printed on recycled paper!
With new friendship forged and knowledge gained, the workshop was a huge success with all 7 participants ready to embark on their journey to become global citizens and share their ideals with the rest of their fellow Scouts!
