It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Malek Gabr, former WOSM Deputy Secretary General. Malek passed away suddenly in Cairo, Egypt, on Sunday 28 January.

Malek graduated with a degree in international law and, after serving as an assistant professor at the University of Cairo, he moved to Geneva to complete his PhD. at the Institut des Hautes Etudes of the University of Geneva. He joined the staff of the World Scout Bureau in 1969 and served in various capacities. He was in charge of the Educational Methods Division of the World Scout Bureau for many years and was also widely known as the World Bureau's expert on Constitutional matters.

Malek was awarded the Bronze Wolf for services of the most exceptional character to Scouting in 1985. He was appointed as a Deputy Secretary General of WOSM in 1991 and retired in December 2004. He was 64 years old.
