Past Events

The 1st Panamerican Scout Moot will be held from December 27, 2008 to January 4, 2009 in Arani, Cochabamba - Bolivia.

Participation in the Moot is open to Rover Scout from 18 to 23 years old and Senior Scouts (Venture Scouts) from 15 to 17 years old, who are members of the Nationa Scout Organizations of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

The Moot’s educational proposal has been chosen within the framework of “The world we wish to create”, in line with the United Nations Millennium Declaration, the Millennium Development Goals and WOSM Scouts of the World Award. “The world we wish to create” requires the young people to engage in action, that is why the event’s motto will be “AMERICA IN ACTION”. We aim at making this event an effective opportunity to inform, to make aware and to engage young people in concrete action and projects to create a better world.

JOTI

World Scouting's communication theme for this year is environment, given our work and the worldwide focus on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference (COP 15) in Copenhagen 7 - 18 December.

Therefore the “C3” is an excellent opportunity to show to the world the efforts of millions of Scouts to protect the environment and take positive action against climate change.

JOTI and JOTA are real testimonies to the international dimension of Scouting, where young people not only learn about new technologies, they can understand that there are millions of Scouts all over the world sharing the same vision: creating a better world!

You can chat about the Climate Change Challenge C3 in the JOTI chat room: #wosm-challenge

WOSM's voice on the air

The amateur radio station of the World Scout Bureau was active from Geneva on all short-wave and VHF bands during the full JOTA weekend with the Bureau’s call sign HE8S. In addition, HE8S used the Echolink network to connect to distant radio stations.

Weekly or monthly nets exist in which licensed Scouts meet on the air:

Amateur radio stations have been set up at each World Scout Jamboree since 1957. They provided a live-link from the Jamboree to the home countries of the participants, directly over short-wave radio. For many years, this was the only direct contact back home a Scout could have.

The World Jamboree radio stations provided a glimpse of the Jamboree live to other Scouts world-wide as part of the Join-in-Jamboree programme. Ths station team also ran daily programmes for the Scouts on the Jamboree site. To many of them, their first encounter with short-wave radio.

A radio-scouting seminar is held in Europe every 3 or 4 years. Participants from all over Europe discuss JOTA organisation, devise further policies and exchange radio-scouting ideas and views. Participants are National JOTA Organisers, International Commisioners and National team members.

World Events

The World Scout Youth Forum provides an opportunity for young members of World Scouting to discuss and express their views on issues of interest to them. Through preparing inputs and making recommendations to the World Conference and to the World Scout Committee, to which the Forum is linked, participants will develop the skills necessary to strengthen their capacity to take part in decision-making processes.

The World Scout Conference is the governing body, the "general assembly" of Scouting, and is composed of all the members of the Organisation: the National Scout Organizations.

Its function is to consider the policy and standards of the Scout Movement throughout the world, formulate the general policy of the World Organization, and take the action required to further the purpose of the Movement.

The World Scout Jamboree is the largest regular event organised by the Scout Movement.

It takes place every four years in a different country. It is above all an educational event to promote peace and understanding among young people all over the world.

World Scout Moots are gatherings of members of senior branches of National Scout Associations (traditionally called Rovers) and other young adult members.
