Rover Peace Baton
To highlight the Golden Anniversary of Scouting in the Asia-Pacific Region, 15 key projects were designed and created, one of these was the Peace Baton Relay which is created to raise public awareness on the importance of peace in the lives and future of today's young people.
The project was conceived with the idea of involving young people in the APR on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee Year Celebration and World Centenary of Scouting.
The peace campaign, symbolically characterized by the Rover peace Baton, which traveled to 24 countries in the Asia-Pacific Region for seven months had finally ended in a grand handover ceremony on 10 March 2007, in Manila, Philippines, getting the participation of more than 150,000 Scouts and seven heads of states.
The Peace Baton Relay is a one of the key projects to highlight the golden anniversary of Scouting in the Asia-Pacific Region as a commemoration of its establishment as a regional organization in 1956. Its primary goal is to raise public awareness on the importance of peace in the lives and future of today's young people.
The Peace batons embarked on four distinctive routes, all starting simultaneously in August 2006. Countries of origin are Fiji, Pakistan, Mongolia and Japan. Apart from these routes, a small route started from Maldives, then to Sri Lanka, ending in India, eventually meeting the baton that orginated from Pakistan.
The peace batons will tour 23 countries of the region for a timeline of seven-month journey that will wrap up in Manila where the Asia-Pacific Regional office of World Organization of the Scout Movement is located. The arrival is set on 22nd February 2007 in time for the birthday of Lord baden Powell, the founder of Scouting.
