Happy Birthday Scouting.....Kenya Sings

Singing, cheering, laughing, and clapping, that’s what marked the official ushering in, of the Centenary Celebrations. 27th July 2007 was the official opening of the celebrations in Nairobi, Kenya at the Rowallan Scouts Camp.

The Chief Scout, who was also the Guest of Honour, Honourable Francis Ole Kaparo inspected the Guard of honour, which was led by the Scout Band, and done by the elegantly dressed Land Scouts, Sea Scouts and Air Scouts. Also present was the Regional Director, World Scout Bureau, Africa Regional Office, Ms. Rubina M. Haroon and representatives of various countries among them East African countries, Australia, Hong Kong and United States. In his speech, the Chief scout was very impressed that Scouting had come all the way and that it is a marvellous idea that was started and should be continued. “ Scouting is a good movement and all the youth should be encouraged into it.” These were his concluding remarks. Ms. Rubina M. Haroon also had a chance to speak for the Africa Regional Office. Glamorous as usual, she led the Scouts in singing Happy Birthday for the movement. Dr. Steve Foster, The National Treasurer for Kenya Scout Association, and a Sea Scout gave the final remarks and the vote of thanks. 100years it has been. We are ushering in a second century of the movement. The world is coming together, to keep the promise. One World One Promise is the theme of the Celebrations.
