Africa Scout Media Awards initiative is launched

The World Scout Bureau, Africa Regional Office launched the Africa Scout Media Awards (ASMEA) on Friday, 8th June 2007. Some of the winners of the awards included BBC Africa, Reuters, PanAfrican News Agency and national media houses.

As per ARO's new communication strategy, the prime objective of the first edition of this initiative was to establish contact, strengthen ties and bridge the gap between Scouting in Africa and the media world. A responsibility of the Communications Unit. This first of its kind project attracted media coverage on TV, Radio and newspaper companies. This includes an interview with the Unit Manager, Communications, on BBC Africa. Through the event, ARO got to raise awareness on the new Scout brand, the Africa Scout Radio project, Amahoro Amani Peace Gathering in Burundi, the Africa Scout Conference in Rwanda, the World Scout Jamboree and the Centenary of Scouting. The office intends to make the event annual, bigger and better, and in that regard, the Communications Unit invites ideas and contributions.
