Naesbycentret

Situated in the middle of Zealand the Naesbycentre is an active Danish Scout centre with picturesque grounds and sunny weather particularly all summer.
For all the summer camps the centre is run by the Naesfolk, a group of volunteers who keep the centre in shape all year round. For foreign Scouts we offer a range of different activities.

The Naesbycentre is situated in one of the most beautiful areas in Zealand - right in the middle of Zealand between Soroe and Naestved. We have streams, lakes, forests and beautiful landscapes close at hand.
To the Naesbycentre 27 acres are attached perfectly divided between plane campsites for bigger or smaller groups, a hilly activity ground and a beautiful small lake, around which it is possible to do a lot of different activities.
Because of the good location the Naesbycentre offers a wide range of activities and arrangements. We arrange a lot of eventful weekends for all age groups. During the summer we arrange 6 or 7 centre camps and we really have a lot of challenging activities for all age groups to tackle.
The Naesbycentre provides an excellent base for all kinds of excursions and outings in Zealand. There are a lot of things to see in the surrounding country of the Naesbycentre and it only takes one hour by train to get to Copenhagen. Have a look at the local sightseeing.
We have a permanent nature guide attached to the Næsbycentre, who really makes it possible to learn a lot about the nature surrounding us.
The Næsbycentre is an international Scout centre. We are member of The SCENES Network, the European Scout Centre Network, affiliated with the European Camp Staff Programme and the Eurostep Programme and therefore we can offer both Danish and foreign Scouts unique Scout experiences.

Access to surrounding environmental places of interest:

We are situated near the Tystrup lake with a lot of hiking possibilities.

The nature is very picturesque and there are no limits of what to explore. We offer hikes of different distances and help you plan your own hike; for example a canoe hike.

Alll the hikes will lead you through beautiful nature surroundings and help you explore Denmark in a wonderful way.

Environmental Education Programmes Available :

We have introduced more than 30 new activities based on renewable energy resources and recycling thoughts. This is a short introduction to the different activities:
- We have tried to find activities to make the Scouts aware of the usage of the energy e.g.: Wind energy, different windmills in more or less advanced versions or water energy; build small water mills with Lego Briggs, milk cardboard containers or plastic bottles.
- Recycling paper production: this is really a hit among the children. The scouts produce postcards and envelops for letters home to their parents, and the fantasy is challenged with flowers, leafs and a lot of other things. Wool. How to card and felt funny dolls or maybe a hat. How to make a spin and to make your own yarn, and how to make a small loom and use the yarn to weave ribbons or belts.
- Environmental game, by using the traditional game of Yatzy with dices, the Scouts have to answer different questions on environmental topics or solve small tasks around the centre site. This is also an activity with a big demand, and we have one game for younger and one for older Scouts.
- The Environmental Pioneer Badge, a woven badge for the uniform can be achieved by the Scouts, who have participated in the waste sorting and carried out 2 Environment Activities.

Environmental Management of the Centre + Environmental features of the Centre:

We think that the best way to take care of the nature, is to learn the new generations how to protect our common future. We do that through environmental activities. Apart from that, we are trying every day to be as sustainable as possible.
We have a special programme for saving energy in our everyday work at the centre.
We use only energy saving light-bulbs
We are using sun-heated water for hot water
We have a heat pump to heat our offices
We use fire wood in the main building
New plans are to:
Install heat pumps all over the center
Use rainwater and sea-water for flushing toilets
Install a primitive sun-heater for the hot baths for our guests

Main achievements to dates:

We have made a lot of nature activities and environmental programmes for our guests. We have implemented a very complex garbage-sorting system. High degree of awareness about the environment among the staff

Goals for the future:

Further activities, and integration of the environmental activities into our ordinary activities. We should have an environmental voice and awareness in all we are doing.

Languages the centre can offer activities in:

The main language is Danish, but we offer activities in English as well. We have a lot of differnt nationalities and because of the volunteers at the centre, we are used to deal with language problems.
