Maldives celebrates 50 years of Scouting

On the occasion of the 50 years of Scouting in Maldives, the Scouts Association of Maldives organized the “Golden Jubilee Jamboree” at the pristine island of Hulhumale, Maldives from 15 – 19 April 2007

Days of fun and learning were enjoyed by 1,279 Scouts and Scouters from different schools throughout Maldives. A group of Scouters from Malaysia also came to witness the event.

The Minister of Education, Honorable Ms Zahiya Zareer accompanied by the President of the Scout Council and Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Honorable Dr. Mahmoodh Shaugee, officially opened the Jamboree and hoped that Scouting will continue to flourish in the country.

As Scouts frolicked in the sand, they also immersed in 60 different activities which they chose from five main themes: Global Village, Peace and Culture Village, Sea Paradise, City of Science and Adventure and Challenges. To obtain a Jamboree Award, Scouts had to participate in 22 activities.

Giving support to this golden anniversary of the Scout association, also its 8th National Jamboree, APR put up an exhibition centre highlighting the centenary of Scouting manned by APR representative Ms Arjay Francisco to give the locals a bigger perspective of Scouting around the world.
