The Governance Review Task Force works towards a brighter future for World Scouting

The Governance Review Task Force met for three days in Geneva from to 14 to 16 December to prepare its report to the World Scout Committee. The meeting was very productive, and included discussions with the Chairman of the Constitutions Committee.

This meeting was planned some time ago to come at the end of all the discussions and consultations that members of the task force have had with National Scout Organizations at the six Regional Conferences in 2007.

At these Conferences, the task force members had heard many ideas for better governance of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), including calls for greater involvement of NSOs in the decision-making processes of WOSM. As a result, the task force has drawn up a number of recommendations, including proposals for some significant changes to the WOSM Constitution that the task force believes would best achieve these objectives.

These recommendations have been included in a draft report from the task force to the World Scout Committee. This is now being finalised and will be delivered to the World Scout Committee before the end of the New Year holidays. The World Committee will meet at the end of the February 2008 to consider the report and decide how to deal with the task force's recommendations. If the World Committee decides to propose them, the recommendations, including the changes to the WOSM Constitution, will be sent to NSOs in time for consideration before and at the World Scout Conference in Korea in July 2008.

The World Scout Committee is currently considering opportunities for National Scout Organizations to discuss their ideas for the future direction of WOSM in the period leading up to the Korea Conference, so that the Movement can move forward into the second century of Scouting in a spirit of unity and common purpose. The proposals for change will be aired on these occasions, so that the World Conference can make the best possible decisions for the future governance and direction of the Movement.
