On Friday 13 March 2009, under the banner, “Our Africa, Our Environment: Scouts Care”, the Scout fraternity commemorated Africa Scout Day with pomp. In Nairobi, where the regional office (ARO) is headquartered, that occasion was marked with an environmental walk, donation of Scout uniform and the planting of 100 trees. ARO staffs were involved in the activity, that was covered by a local radio station PAMOJA FM 99.9. The Africa Scout Committee was represented by Mr. Naivasha. The Government of Kenya was represented by the District Commissioner, Nairobi West. After the tree planting at a Nairobi School, the DC, Nairobi west, named the Garden, "Africa Scout Garden".
Scouts have joined the fast paced action of the Volvo Ocean Race as it sails around the world, engaging in sailing activities, learning about the marine environment and high seas adventure. Hundreds of Scouts have already participated in special Volvo Ocean Race Scout Days in Spain, South Africa and Singapore with more ports to come in the months ahead.
Everyone has the opportunity to be a part of the action, as Scouts have partnered with the Volvo Ocean Race and UNEP to create 'Race for the Environment' - an online challenge website where competitors can set up an account and help join the race to save our planet!

C., queremos convocarlos al “Concurso de proyectos medioambientales” con el propósito de reconocer el trabajo en la protección y recuperación del medio ambiente que realizan Unidades Scouts y Comunidades de Caminantes de nuestra región.
ينطلق فى العاشر من شهر مارس 2009 م الموافق 13/3/1430هـ المشروع الوطنى لحماية البيئة والذى يشارك فيه 11000 كشافاً وقائداً يمثلون جميع مناطق المملكة ومحافظتها.

Tunza Magazine features Scouts support for Earth Hour
The latest UNEP Tunza Magazine for youth has been released, full of interesting articles about climate change and the environment. The magazine also includes a feature by Sijie Tan of The Singapore Scout Association explaining how the participants of the 10th World Scout Youth Forum had an 'Earth Hour' dinner, where they used no electricity.
WOSM is officially supporting Earth Hour 2009.

The Scouts of the World Base in Singapore conducted the 3rd Scouts of the World Award Discovery Workshop from the 12 to 14 December 2008! Attended by 7 participants, comprising of 3 from Singapore, 3 from Thailand and 1 from Malaysia, this was the pilot ASEAN SWA Discovery workshop!

One simple act. One huge message.
On March 27th at 8.30pm millions of people, 1000s of cities, globally famous monuments...and many Scouts... will all switch off their lights for just 1 hour in a symbolic show of support for our one and only planet.
All Scouts have an opportunity to be part of this global initiative by turning off their lights and taking part in activities which demonstrate their concern for global warming. You can be involved as an individual, with your family and friends, as a Scout Group or as part of your local community.
Following the ongoing successful partnership between the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of 2004, a renewed MoU has been signed in 2008 to continue to enhance the opportunities for Scouts and young people at local, national, regional and world levels to engage in environmental education actions.
