The 4th Zonal Conference and the 4th Zonal Youth Forum of West Africa took place in Niamey, Niger, from the 16th to 18th February 2008, at the Village de la Francophonie.
The official opening ceremony took place at the Palais des Arts, and was presided by the Minister for Youth and Sports, who was in the company of other Government officials, Ambassadors, representatives of international and national NGOs, former Scouts, members of the National Council of Association des Scouts du Niger.

 

My Dearest Brothers and Sisters,

Today, we celebrate the birthday of our Founder who built our movement based on values and integrity and fought for peace and equality. While we cannot change the course of history, we can all leave this world better than we found it by starting in our own small patches of earth.

 

In the run-up to the 2009 Regional Scout Conference, the Botswana Scouts Association (BSA) held a workshop on Friday the 8th February 2008, at Aedume Scout Training Centre. The workshop was attended by 25 participants from different organizations and stakeholders.

 

February is the month in which the Founder of Scouting, Lord Baden Powell, was Born. In Fact, on 22nd February 2008, the Kenya Scouts Association, like other Scouts from all corners of the world, will be celebrating the 'Founder's Day', in Nyeri, Kenya.

 

During a colourful ceremony, Ms. Anna Tibaijuka, Director General, UN Office at Nairobi and Regional Director, WOSM – Africa, Ms. Rubina Haroon inspected a guard of honour mounted by 200 Scouts and Guides at UN Office at Nairobi (UNON), on February 4, 2008.

 

In the aftermath of the election violence that ensued in Kenya, Scouts in Nairobi, Eldoret and in Nakuru offered a helping hand to IDPs fleeing from their homes.

Nakuru

In Nakuru, in a community service exercise led by the Area Commissioner, Mr. Joseph Wahome and the Leader Trainer, Mr. Simon Muthoga, 25 Scouts provided assistance to IDPs at the Nakuru Show Ground from December 31st, 2007 – just 4 days after the election. The operation is still on-going, in close collaboration with the Red Cross.
