Roverway 2006: "Dare to share ! "
The 2nd Roverway is based this year in Florence, Italy from 6-14 August.
"Dare to Share!" was chosen to be the theme of the international gathering for Rover Scouts (Scouts aged 16 to 22 years old) and has been organised by WAGGGS and World Scouting's European Region.
More than 5,000 people have been participating in the event which has taken place in two stages. During the first stage, groups of 50 Scouts and Guides were spread thoughout Italy on expedition camps- each designed around one of four themes: environment & nature, history & tradition, politics & society and science & technology. The second stage has united all participants at a single site in Loppiano, near Florence, so that experiences can be shared and European culture celebrated on a grand scale.
This event is not just a get-together for members of Scouting and Guiding, but is also the opportunity to send a message to institutions and show that the idea of European unity is much less a matter of a common currency than it is a desire to share with, and understand, other cultures. The Scouts are 'daring to share' as the youth of Europe!
