Rome Offers its Support to World Scouting

Rome, September 24 2004: The Mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni, and the Secretary General of WOSM, Dr. Eduardo Missoni, met today to study the possibilities of cooperation between the city of Rome and World Scouting.

Mayor Veltroni will consider the possibility - working with Italian Scouting - to host in the Italian capital the World Scout Conference and Youth Forum in 2011. They also discussed World Scouting events to be held in Rome in April 2005. These include a meeting of the World Scout Foundation, with the presence of its Honorary President The King of Sweden, and a meeting of the World Scout Committee, the elected body leading the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

As the city of Rome has projects of development cooperation with Maputu Mozambique, Mayor Veltroni and Dr. Missoni discussed the World Scouting youth event planned for 2008 in Mozambique. This led to the Mayor's invitation to World Scouting representatives to join the delegation travelling from Rome to Mozambique at beginning of October.
