International centenary COMDECA held in Bangladesh

Known for its active involvement in community service, Bangladesh Scouts hosted the International Centenary COMDECA from 7th to 14th December 2007 in the Cox’s Bazar, southeast of Dhaka, Bangladesh giving the local and overseas participants a taste of nature and environment, local inhabitants, health and environment development activities.

The event is participated approximately by 5000 Scouts, Rovers and COMDECA Service Team members from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Nepal with the largest overseas contingent.

As cyclone SIDR hit the country on November last year, participants took part in distributing relief goods; reconstruction of houses, schools and youth club and roads; construction of water seal latrine; resinking of tube-well; health message dissemination (house to house campaign); health Camp (treatment for injured and traumatic patients) and distribution of utensils and mosquito nets. To help in the agricutural aspect, they distributed vegetable seeds, training on compost manure and vaccinated cattles.

Bangladesh President and Chief Scout Iajuddin Ahmed opened the COMDECA through live telecast at his official residence.

Participants made a visit to Moheshkali Island where ten projects are taking place.
