Australian Scouts take the Peace Baton to Solomon Island.
3rd Update: Rover Peace Baton tours Australia, India, Nepal and Korea
AUSTRALIA
On October 5, 2006, Mr. Jason Thompson, Baton Coordinator of Scouts Australia together with 45 Scouts from Australia handed over the Peace Baton to His Excellency Sir Nathaniel Waena, Chief Scout and Governor-General of Solomon Island (SI). From there, the Baton relayed to the main road of Honiara and was greeted by Scouts and cheered by the people besides the streets. After the relay, a program was held in SMI Complex with Prime Minister of Solomon Island, Hon.Manasseh Sogavare as the Guest Speaker.
The Peace Baton also spent time with Australia and SI Scouts during the S106 project, wherein Scouts from Australia are working to improve Scouting in Solomon Islands and community facilities.
Besides the dignitaries mentioned above, the Peace Baton was also handed over to the following dignitaries of Australia and Solomon Island namely, Joe Billy Oge, SI Scout Association Chief Commissioner; Mr. Alex Wang, Chairman of SI Association; and Ms. Heidi Bootle, Acting Australian High Commissioner in Solomon Islands.
After the relay in Solomon Island, the Peace Baton will go back to Australia and will be send by postal in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea on November 6, 2006.
INDIA
After the Pakistan Boy Scouts Association (PBSA) handed the first Peace Baton to Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) on 15 September 2006 at the Wagah Boarder and begun traveling different parts of India, journeying down to the different provinces headed by Scouts, Rovers and government leaders, the second baton from Sri Lanka arrived on 2 October 2006 at the Chennai border.
Carrying the Peace Baton was Mr. Shantha M. Madurawe, International Commissioner of Sri Lanka Scout Association, who was formally welcomed by State Secretary and Chief Education Officer Dr. Rajendran at the Tamilnadu Bharat Scouts and Guides State Headquarters.
Other places the Peace Baton also traveled were the provinces of Mahabalipuran, Kancheepuram, Villupuram and Salem. In these provinces, the Rover Peace Baton was welcomed by dignitaries and procession and big gatherings, participated by thousands of Rovers and Scouts, were held using motorcycle and open cars.
Among the dignitaries who welcomed the peace baton were State Organizing Committee Sri G. Ragavan who handover the Peace Baton to Sri Radhakrishnan, District Secretary of Chengleput District BSG, Asst. Secretary Mr. Kotteeswaran and Sr. Scouter Mr. Kalaimani LT/S of Kanchepuram BSG, Mr. Raghupathi, District Secretary of Villupuram Bharat Scouts and District Secretary Mr. K. Devarajan, LT/S and Commissioner Mr. Perumal, Chief Educational officer Sri Sethurama Varma.
The next relay schedule of the peace baton will be on Dhamapuri, Vellore and Andha Pradesh at Gudur. After the relay in India, the peace Baton will be handed to Bhutan on the third week of November and from here it will be taken to Bangladesh.
NEPAL
After gathering support in India, the Peace Baton, which received from Pakistan was handed over to Nepal on 17 October 2006 in Sunauli boarder. The Baton was handover to Mr. Anand Gupta, District Commissioner of Nepal Scout, during a mammoth rally.
Like in other provinces of India, the Peace Baton also gathered support during the handover, 100 motorcyclist and 1,000 Rovers and Scouts joined the march in going to Sunauli Boarder for the handover to Nepal.
After the handover, the Peace Baton proceeded to Guntur (Andra Pradesh) from Madras, where a rally is being held at the District Headquarters of Guntur.
As part of the plan, after the relay in Nepal, the Peace Baton will again be handover to India on 23 October in Raxaul before it will be handover to Bangladesh on 26 November 2006.
KOREA
After a successful relay in Japan, the Peace Baton of the third route was handover to Korea Scout Association on 11 October 2006 in Jeju Island during the Opening Program of the APR Event Management Course.
The handover was personally witnessed by WSB-APR Regional Director Abdullah Rasheed and APR Directors, S. Prassanna Shrivastava and Syd Castillo.
