The Peace Caravan in Nairobi.
To mark the Centenary Celebrations, Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya jointly went out of their way to promote peace in East African region, they formed a Peace Caravan.
From Kenya, there was Alexander Kimathi, Aoko Belta and Phillip Moses. Ugandans included, Justus Balikuddembe, Kizito Ivan Drago, and Cleopatra John. Alferio M. Nchimbi, Magoti Mathusela, Huseni Hasani Salum, Nyamushogoro Kiracha, Makame Ally, Rehema Marango and Saada Said represented Tanzania. The Peace Caravan started in Tanzania, through Dar es Salam-Dodoma-Tabora-Kigoma-Mbarara-Kampala-Mbale-Kisumu-Nakuru-Nairobi and finally in Nyeri. During their transit, the Scouts planted trees, swept streets, visited schools and did other community service jobs. In the spirit of Scouting, they interacted and exchanged contacts with Scouts of East African Regions. This is one of the joint initiatives that East Africa as a region takes part in. This also symbolises the desire of Scouts to have a peaceful Africa, since another peace Caravan had just been concluded in the Great Lakes region, ahead of the Amahoro Amani Initiative to be launched in Burundi, at the end of August. This also comes at a time when the Scouts are celebrating the Gifts for Peace Initiative.
