East African Guides and Scouts discuss Drug Demand Reduction

The second meeting of the East African Guides and Scouts on Drug Demand Reduction hosted by the IOGT-NTO Movement International Institute was held in Nairobi between the 19th and the 21st of October 2007. It had four objectives, namely:

1. To experience how Guiding and Scouting in countries of the sub region are organised and are running activities in both similar and different ways.
2. To share what different organizations have done in relation to the alcohol and drugs issue since the last Forum in Kampala in March.
3. To learn from the experiences in the area of Working with 'Prevention through Media' (theme for this meeting of the Forum). Sharing lessons learnt from Burundi Guides (Young Journalist Program) and Kenya Scouts (Scouts Voice).
4. To decide the time and the program for the coming meeting in Kigali on “Prevention Programs” and suggest time for the first meeting of next year's Forum.

Decisions and Suggestions about the two coming meetings:

1. Due to the upcoming Zonal Scout Conference for East Africa in December we decided to move the Forum in Kigali from December to January. The Forum also decided to extend the meeting from one day to four days. The dates will be 10-13th of January 2008 in Kigali. The means of transport will be bus for all participants, which was agreed by everyone in order to keep costs down and include more people.
2. The main workshops in Kigali will be held by Kenya Girl Guides and the Temperance Guide and Scout Association from Sweden.
3. The Forum suggested the weekend 9-10th February 2008 for the ''first meeting of the 2008 Forum'' and that it would be held in Kampala.

For sharing possibilities and easier e-mail handling we have set up a web group for sharing materials from the Forum and related issues. To get an invitation to access the group send an e-mail to: per.eriksson@nsf.scout.se (until the 15th February 2008 thereafter to iii.ea@iogt.se).
