Congo crisis, WOSM's Acting Secretary General delivers a message of solidarity
The ongoing Congo crisis has cost the life of a Congolese Scout leader. Mr. Kakule Jean Léo, was 30 years at the time of his death when a bomb landed on his house and killed him. He was a troop leader in Groupe scout Kirwa Lac, Rubare.
WOSM (World Organization of the Scout Movement)'s Acting Secretary General, Mr. Luc Panissod, has issued a message of solidarity to the affected Scouts and populations. Please find the message below.
To the Chief Commissioners of the National Scout Organizations of D.R. Congo and Rwanda
Dear Scout friends,
It is my honour to address you this message on behalf of the World Scout Committee that just had its meeting over the last week-end in Geneva, and on behalf of the World Scout Bureau, so as to assure you of our moral support and of our Scout solidarity during these very difficult moments facing your people and our brothers and sisters in Scouting, in the North and South Kivu areas.
We wholeheartedly hope that these hostilities and atrocities will come to an end as quickly as possible and that the Scout movement in your two countries will be active Peace messengers among the youth and among the population. We hope that you will be able to make use of the immensely positive experience of Amahoro.
While reiterating our message of Scout fraternity, we extend our wishes of courage to you.
Sincerely yours,
Luc Panissod
