Africa Scout Regional Office (ARO) endorses Human Rights initiative

Friday 18th May marked the beginning of an informed weekend at ARO. The Africa Regional Office had the honour of hosting a conference on Human Rights. Under the banner, "Building a Better World with Human Rights", the event was held at the Regional Office, in Nairobi, Kenya.

The forum was organised by YOUTH FOR HUMAN RIGHTS INTERNATIONAL (YHRI) in collaboration with the World Scout Bureau, Africa Region. The guest speaker was Ms. Mary Shuttleworth, Founder and Director of the YHRI. Other participants included different YHRI Directors from various regions of the continent, Human Rights officials and also various officials from different Scout organisations. Also present was Ms. Alice Waweru, Development Executive, World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, Africa Region. The Regional Director, Ms. Rubina M. Haroon, hosted the event. In her welcoming speech, she reiterated the suffering witnessed in Africa as a continent. The Regional top executive, therefore advocated for collaboration between the various organisations and movements so as to realise a world that upholds human rights. During her presentation, Ms. Shuttleworth cited the aims of the YHRI. Tearon, Ms. Shuttleworth's son, who is The Youth Advocate for human rights presented a brief but captivating video documentary that he produced in an effort to showcase the importance of equality, appreciation and education on human rights.
