Africa Regional Director, Rubina Haroon, delivers a keynote address at a Canadian varsity
On Tuesday, March 11, 2008, the Africa Regional Director, Ms Rubina Haroon, made a keynote presentation at the University College of the Fraser Valley, at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium in Abbotsford, Canada. She was speaking at a forum that attempted to explore children and youth issues in Africa and Canada. The theme of this symposium was: 'Cities for Children and Youth - Child and Youth Friendly Development in Canada and Africa'
The event that was organized under the aegis of the University College of the Fraser Valley and Child & Youth Friendly Abbotsford Working Group addressed questions such as:
- What does a Child and Youth Friendly City mean to children in Abbotsford?
- How are the hopes and dreams of children in Africa the same?
- How can Abbotsford respond to the dreams of these children?
Other items on the agenda were among others: Child and Youth Friendly Communities; Abbotsford through the eyes of children and youth; Presentation of Child Friendly Mapping Workshop Outcomes by Abbotsford Middle School Youth; Child and Youth Friendly World: Global Perspective on the Needs of Children and Youth.
